Showcasing the Essence of the IB PYP Through Student-Led News and Storytelling

Welcome to the Jackson Newspaper, the official school newspaper of Jackson IB PYP World School! More than just a collection of articles, the Jackson Journal is a dynamic platform where our scholars take the lead as inquirers, communicators, thinkers, and reflective learners. This school publication is a living example of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) in action—student-driven, globally aware, and deeply meaningful.

Each edition of the Jackson Journal captures the spirit of learning, creativity, and community that defines our school. From thought-provoking opinion pieces and school event coverage to interviews, art spotlights, and features on community action, every page reflects our scholars’ voices and the values of the IB Learner Profile.

An IB PYP Showcase in Every Edition

At Jackson, we believe scholars learn best when they have ownership over their learning. The School Newspaper is one of the many ways our scholars engage in authentic, inquiry-based learning that goes beyond the classroom walls. Here's how the Jackson Newspaper embodies the principles of the IB PYP:

  • Inquirers: Scholars investigate topics that matter to them—ranging from environmental awareness and cultural celebrations to technology, sports, and the arts.

  • Knowledgeable: Writers research, gather facts, and present accurate information, developing a deep understanding of both local and global issues.

  • Thinkers: Students analyze current events, interpret data, and offer thoughtful perspectives on relevant topics affecting their school and community.

  • Communicators: Through writing, interviewing, and peer collaboration, scholars express themselves clearly and confidently in various formats.

  • Principled & Caring: Each issue is created with a sense of responsibility and respect, promoting kindness, inclusion, and fairness.

  • Open-Minded: Scholars explore diverse viewpoints and highlight stories that represent different cultures, traditions, and experiences.

  • Balanced & Reflective: Contributors manage deadlines, balance their roles, and reflect on feedback to continuously improve their writing and communication skills.

Connecting School, Community, and the World

The Jackson Newspaper helps strengthen connections between our school, families, and the broader community. It allows readers to celebrate scholar accomplishments, learn more about what’s happening at school, and see firsthand how our IB PYP philosophy is being lived out every day.

From coverage of PYP Units of Inquiry to highlights on student action and service, the Jackson Newspaper gives our community a front-row seat to the learning journeys taking place inside our classrooms and beyond.

Student-Led, Teacher-Supported

The Jackson Newspaper is student-led and teacher-supported, with scholars taking on editorial roles, writers’ meetings, layout decisions, and creative direction. Under the guidance of our faculty advisors, students engage in the full process of publishing—from brainstorming article ideas to conducting interviews, editing drafts, and designing the final layout.

Each edition provides opportunities for scholars to shine—not just as writers, but also as photographers, illustrators, designers, and leaders. These authentic roles give our scholars real-world experiences that strengthen both academic and life skills.

A Window Into the IB PYP Journey

Whether it's a first grader writing a poem about friendship or a sixth grader reporting on environmental sustainability, the School Newspaper is a window into the vibrant life of an IB PYP learner. Each article, photo, and reflection tells a story of growth, agency, and engagement—core to the mission of the IB.

We invite you to read, share, and celebrate the incredible work of our Jackson scholars in each issue of the Jackson Newspaper!
