Three talented students from Hempstead Public Schools were recognized during the New York Islanders game on March 13, 2026, at UBS Arena after being selected as winners of the Multicultural Patch Contest.
Samantha Mejia of Barack Obama School and Nathaly Soliz of Jackson School attended the game and were honored on the ice for their creative and meaningful designs celebrating culture and community. Zylah Hall of David Paterson School was also selected as a winner, but was unable to attend the event.
The recognition highlights the incredible artistic talent within Hempstead Public Schools and demonstrates how student creativity can bring communities together. Through opportunities like this, the arts continue to inspire unity, celebrate diversity, and showcase how public school education nurtures creativity, imagination, and the voices of young artists.
