Every Day Counts at Jackson IB PYP World School

At Jackson International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) World School, we believe that consistent, on-time attendance is essential for academic success and social-emotional development. Scholars thrive when they are actively engaged in daily learning experiences that support their growth as inquirers, thinkers, and global citizens.

Daily attendance is more than just being present—it’s about participating, connecting, and growing. When scholars attend school consistently, they:

• Build strong routines and a sense of responsibility

• Stay connected to their peers, teachers, and school community

• Fully engage in inquiry-based learning and classroom discussions

• Develop essential academic and life skills that prepare them for future success

Missed days mean missed opportunities to learn, collaborate, and make meaningful progress toward grade-level goals.

The IB PYP emphasizes learning that is transdisciplinary, student-centered, and inquiry-based. Many of our units of inquiry involve collaborative learning, project-based activities, and real-time investigations. Regular attendance ensures that scholars:

• Contribute to class discussions and group work

• Benefit from timely teacher feedback and hands-on learning

• Stay involved in the natural progression of inquiry and reflection

• Take part in learning experiences that are difficult to replicate outside the classroom

Being present means being part of the learning journey—every day matters.

Absences are considered excused only for the following reasons:

• Illness (with doctor’s note)

• Religious observance

• Family emergency

• Required court appearance

• Death in the immediate family

Unexcused absences include family vacations, oversleeping, or lack of transportation. Families are encouraged to schedule appointments and travel outside of school hours when possible.

• Establish a consistent bedtime and morning routine

• Prepare clothes, backpacks, and lunch the night before

• Make school attendance a priority and talk about its importance

• Communicate with the school if your child will be absent

• Reach out to the school if you need assistance with transportation or other support
